gamma spectrocscopy
Gamma spectroscopy is the science (or art) of identification and/or quantification of radionuclides by analysis of the gamma-ray energy spectrum produced in a gamma-ray spectrometer. It is widely used as a technique for monitoring radioactive materials across various mediums. A complete Gamma Spectroscopy system consists of a detector, cooling system, electronics & analytical systems. Each component's variety & the choices are dependent on the user's application. (i.e. detection of a specific type of radionuclides in gemstones) Please contact us for more information.

FEATURES
Large area 85 mm x 30 mm HPGe crystal.
High-reliability Stirling cycle cooler cools rapidly to operating temperature. Hardened cryostat designed for long operational life. Can be temperature cycled at any time, even from partial warm up. High performance, digitally stable signal processing. “Hot swap” of IDM modules while in operational state – reduced downtime. Continuous data collection, no dead spots, using list mode. Low Frequency Rejector (LFR) improves spectrum resolution in noisy environments. |
hpge detectors
ORTEC offers a wide range of HPGe (High Purity Germanium) radiation detector solutions which cover energies for X-rays in the few hundred electron volts (eV) range up to gamma rays in the 10 MeV and above range. These detectors are manufactured using high purity germanium (HPGe) of both P- and N-type. All detectors in these two classes are cryogenically cooled, using either liquid nitrogen or electro-mechanical coolers.
Choosing the correct detectors is dependent on usage, different usage would determine how powerful/sensitive the detectors needs to be. Customisation for detection of a specific isotope is also available. |
cooling systems
electronics: multi-channel analysers
The need to perform gamma-ray spectroscopy measurements at high count rates with HPGE detectors is more common than many believe.
The challenge is to obtain the “best” data possible in the given measurement situation. “Best” is a combination of statistical (number of counts) and spectral quality (peak width and position) considerations over a wide range of count rates. The development of MultiChannel Analyzers (MCA) using Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has made possible a much wider range of values for shaping times as well as the processing of the detector signal in various ways to improve performance with pulse-by-pulse adjustments. ORTEC has a huge variety of MCA available, depending on your application (i.e. portable MCA) |
